Patience Ozokwor Reflects on Arranged Marriage, Raising 7 Children After Husband’s Death

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has shared an intimate look into her personal life, reflecting on her arranged marriage and the family she built.

According to Ozokwor, she was married at 19 in an arrangement made by her parents, a decision she initially feared. “I didn’t know how to love a man I didn’t choose,” she admitted. Over time, love grew between them, and they spent 23 years together until her husband passed away in 2000 after 15 years of illness.

The actress revealed that they had three children together and later adopted five more, though one of the adopted children passed away, leaving her with seven children today. She has never remarried, choosing to dedicate herself to raising her family.

Reflecting on modern marriage, Ozokwor noted that today, people often focus on self-fulfillment, yet many marriages fail. She emphasized that in her generation, arranged marriages were approached with commitment and endurance.

“I raised my daughters to be respectful and my sons to be responsible. That is how I built a strong home through hardship, love, respect, and sacrifice,” she said, highlighting the values that guided her family through life’s challenges.

Her story offers a rare glimpse into the sacrifices and resilience behind one of Nollywood’s most beloved stars.
