Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has sparked conversation online after celebrating Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan — while lowkey calling out Nollywood in the process.
Following the actor’s major win at the Academy Awards, Kunle took to social media to express excitement, praising how winners get their awards instantly — fully personalized and ready to take home.

But the real buzz came when he compared it to the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, joking that in Nollywood, winners often “share one award” for the night and return later to collect theirs.
The subtle jab quickly got people talking, reigniting long-standing debates about the structure and standards of Nollywood award systems.

This isn’t the first time industry insiders have voiced concerns. Big names like Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and Mary Njoku have previously questioned the system — from lack of residual income to unclear benefits of industry guilds.
Media personality Daddy Freeze and veteran actor Nkem Owoh have also had their share of heated takes on how Nollywood compares globally.
While Kunle’s comment may have been playful, it clearly touched a nerve — once again putting the spotlight on how far the industry has come… and how much further it still needs to go.
