Drama and controversy have erupted in Enugu State after a woman from the Ihunowere community in Nsukka was reportedly apprehended over allegations that she took her married daughter to terminate a pregnancy because of the husband’s financial struggles.
According to reports circulating within the community, tensions allegedly started after the son-in-law failed to provide food items and festive gifts to his wife’s family during the Christmas and Easter celebrations, a tradition reportedly expected by the family…WATCH VIDEO HERE
Sources claimed the woman confronted the man over the issue, but he allegedly explained that he was battling serious financial difficulties and could not afford the expenses at the time.
The disagreement reportedly worsened afterward, leading the woman to invite her married daughter back to her family home. Community members later alleged that the daughter returned home pregnant and was subsequently taken to terminate the pregnancy.
The shocking claims sparked outrage among local youths, who reportedly intervened and apprehended the woman over the incident.
According to local reports, the community leadership allegedly ordered the woman to pay her son-in-law ₦1 million in damages. She was also reportedly instructed to carry out traditional rites connected to the loss of the unborn child.
The controversial development has generated heated reactions online, with many Nigerians debating family interference in marriages, financial pressure on husbands, and cultural expectations surrounding marriage responsibilities.
Others also expressed concern over how economic hardship is increasingly creating tension in homes and relationships across different communities.
