A heartbreaking incident has shaken residents of Borno State after a police inspector reportedly lost his life following a lightning strike while carrying out official duties in Maiduguri.
The late officer, identified as Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai,” was said to have been coordinating vehicle parking near the police headquarters when the shocking incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police sources, Garba was working alongside senior officer Wazani Adamu when dark clouds suddenly gathered, signaling an incoming storm. The officers reportedly attempted to find cover from the heavy weather moments before a loud thunderclap erupted.
Witnesses say a powerful lightning strike suddenly hit both men before they could get to safety. While ASP Adamu narrowly survived the terrifying incident, Inspector Garba reportedly suffered severe injuries and could not be saved.
Officials described the fallen officer as a hardworking and dedicated personnel who remained committed to his responsibilities until his final moments. His sudden death has since sparked emotional reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing sadness over the tragic turn of events.
The shocking incident has also reignited conversations about the dangers security personnel face daily, especially while working outdoors during extreme weather conditions.
