Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has finally addressed the swirling rumours suggesting there is trouble in paradise between him and top filmmaker Funke Akindele, and his response is already stirring fresh conversations online.
Speaking during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor cleared the air on the alleged cold war, insisting that there is no bad blood between him and his former boss despite all the online speculation and silent assumptions from fans.
According to Tobi, the narrative of a fallout is purely social media creation, stressing that people often build stories where none exist. He explained that their professional relationship remains intact in principle, and time or distance has not erased the respect he holds for her.
In a statement that caught attention, Tobi made it clear that he is still open to working with Funke Akindele at any time. He revealed that if she calls him for a project and he is available, he would gladly show up without hesitation. He also added that if he has a production and feels she fits a role, he would not think twice about reaching out to her.
His words were simple but loaded: there is no closure, no bitterness, and no locked doors between them professionally.
The speculation around their relationship began months ago when observant fans noticed subtle changes in their public interactions. Reports claimed that Tobi was gradually stepping into broader opportunities beyond Funke’s productions, a move that allegedly created distance between them. At the same time, eagle-eyed followers pointed out that the once-visible online support between them appeared to fade, further fueling breakup rumours.
Tobi, however, has repeatedly shut down any talk of disrespect or mistreatment. He has consistently praised Funke Akindele, crediting her as one of the most influential figures in his career journey. According to him, much of his growth in the industry came through her guidance, training, and the platform she gave him early on.
He also reflected on past moments when online drama surrounded his mentor, including industry controversies that dragged her name into public debate. At the time, he shared a cryptic reaction that sparked further curiosity, but he now appears more focused on clarifying his stance: loyalty does not cancel growth.
Despite all the rumours, Tobi insists there is no war, no enemy lines, and no permanent separation. In his words, careers evolve, relationships shift, and people grow at different speeds—but that does not automatically translate into conflict.
For now, he maintains that if the opportunity arises again, he and Funke Akindele can still collaborate on screen, just like old times.
