The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied a viral video claiming that amoxicillin has been banned in Nigeria, clarifying that the antibiotic is still approved for use nationwide.
In a statement, the agency explained that it only issues targeted safety alerts or recalls when specific batches of medicines are found to be substandard, falsified, or otherwise compromised. These measures are routine public health protections, not blanket bans.
NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical stakeholders, and the public to ignore the misleading claims and to verify all information through its official communication channels before sharing.
The agency also reminded Nigerians to rely solely on updates from verified NAFDAC platforms to avoid panic and misinformation about essential medicines.
