“Landlords Are Choking Lagosians!” — Joe Igbokwe Urges Action Amid Rent Protest

APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has called on the Lagos State government to act urgently against skyrocketing rent charges, following a protest by tenants across the city.

Affected residents staged demonstrations, carrying placards with messages such as “Enough is enough”, “We say no to overprice house rent”, and “Rent increase should be regulated”, claiming landlords and agents are hiking rents without justification.

Reacting on Facebook, Igbokwe described Lagos landlords as greedy, vicious, and lacking empathy, adding that uncontrolled rent increases are forcing citizens into desperate situations.

“Government needs to do something fast to call greedy landlords to order. Landlords are pushing Nigerians to steal in order to rent a house,” he wrote. “Many are charging exorbitant rents for houses built decades ago. This is inhuman and killing businesses in Lagos.”

The protest and Igbokwe’s statement highlight growing frustration over housing affordability in Lagos, calling attention to the urgent need for regulation and tenant protection.
