Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, famously known as Mama G, has stirred massive reactions after revealing the real reason many popular actors end up seeking financial help despite their fame.
Speaking during a revealing interview on the YouTube show Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by Isbae U, the legendary actress didn’t hold back. According to her, the harsh reality behind the glitz and fame of Nollywood is simple—there is no long-term money in it for many actors.

Mama G explained that unlike foreign film industries, Nollywood actors are paid only once—and that’s it. No matter how many times a movie is replayed, streamed, or sold, the actors don’t earn anything beyond their initial payment.
“We don’t receive royalties. Once you’re paid for acting in a movie, that’s all. That’s why many are now rushing to YouTube,” she revealed.
Her statement has opened up a deeper conversation about the struggles behind the spotlight. While fans often assume that fame equals wealth, Mama G’s revelation paints a different picture—one where even the most recognized faces may not have financial stability.

This explains why several Nollywood stars, especially veterans, have been seen publicly asking for help or turning to alternative platforms to survive. With no residual income from their past works, many are now chasing opportunities on digital platforms like YouTube just to stay afloat.
The viral interview has reignited debates about the need for serious reforms in Nollywood, with many calling for a system that ensures actors earn from their work long after production ends.
Behind the fame, the applause, and the recognition lies a tough reality—Nollywood’s biggest stars may not be as financially secure as they appear.
