Nollywood veteran Segun Ogungbe has stepped into the middle of one of the industry’s latest on-screen-off-screen dramas, urging his colleagues Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham to bury the hatchet.
Taking to Instagram, Segun affectionately called both actresses his sisters and made a heartfelt plea: “Please MY SISTERS @toyin_abraham & @funkejenifaakindele, let’s EMBRACE PEACE…. IDUNNU WA NIYIN OOOO.” He also encouraged them to rally their fans behind his latest movie, IRÈTÈ: THE RECKONING, which is showing in cinemas nationwide.
The timing couldn’t be more relevant. At Iyabo Ojo’s movie premiere, a viral clip showed Funke snubbing Toyin, leaving the latter embarrassed. Toyin reportedly vowed never to greet Funke again, and even unfollowed her on social media. Meanwhile, Iyabo, caught in the middle, revealed that the feud stemmed from Toyin pulling out of her movie at the last minute, sparking misunderstandings.
Industry veterans and influencers have chimed in. Nkechi Blessing advised everyone to avoid unnecessary drama, while Do2dtun warned the public to be mindful of whom they greet in a world of fake love. Socialite Bobrisky urged neutrality, noting that behind-the-scenes realities are often hidden. Meanwhile, veterans Fausat Balogun (‘Madam Saje’) and Taiwo Hassan Ogogo have personally intervened, calling for reconciliation and reminding the stars of their blessings and influence in the industry.
Segun’s appeal comes as a breath of fresh air, encouraging peace and collaboration over social media spats, and urging fans to focus on supporting real Nollywood projects rather than fueling drama. Whether Funke and Toyin will heed his call remains to be seen, but the message is loud and clear: peace is better than viral feuds.
