Nigerian singer Busola Oke Eleyele has addressed ongoing criticism of her music, questioning why nothing she does seems to satisfy some people. In a video, she expressed frustration that critics accuse her of singing outdated songs or being too old for certain genres. She asked rhetorically, “What do people really want from me? Can’t you just let me be?”
Recently, Busola received a plot of land and an ambassadorial deal with a property company. Yet, she admitted to struggling financially, citing loneliness, depression, and difficulties sustaining herself from gospel music despite her talent. She revealed she had no car, owed money, and struggled to pay her N55,000-per-day hotel stay.
Supporting her, Fuji maestro Pasuma said the kind of music Busola performs has seen its peak, and anyone still earning from it does so by God’s grace. He also noted his personal concern over her recent emotional video.
Busola has a history of disputes in the industry. In 2023, she accused colleague Gbenga Adewusi of stripping her of earnings after she rejected his sexual advances. Gbenga denied wrongdoing, claiming Busola’s actions led to her challenges.
