Former senator Shehu Sani has dropped a blunt warning that’s stirring serious debate: social media and artificial intelligence are quietly wrecking today’s children — and parents are already feeling the damage.
In a post shared on X, Sani described social media as the single biggest distraction facing young people in this generation, saying it is steadily eroding both education and discipline. According to him, hardly any parent is untouched by the growing grip of phones, apps, and online platforms on their children.
He pointed to bold global moves now raising eyebrows, noting that Australia has already banned social media for children under 16, while countries like France and Britain are actively weighing similar restrictions. To Sani, these aren’t random decisions — they’re panic responses to a fast-growing digital crisis.
But social media, he says, is only half the problem.
The rapid rise of artificial intelligence has made things even more complicated, blurring boundaries between learning, cheating, addiction, and manipulation. In his words, society is now facing “a monster” it didn’t fully prepare for.
Sani admitted that reversing the damage won’t be easy, but insisted that urgent action is needed before the next generation slips further away.
His message was simple but chilling: if nothing is done, children won’t just grow up online — they may be lost to it.
And judging by parents’ fears worldwide, this warning may already be overdue. 📱🤖🔥
