Kano’s political space has been thrown into fresh suspense after Governor Abba Yusuf made a dramatic return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sending shockwaves across party lines.
The surprise move went down on Monday at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House, where Yusuf was formally welcomed back into the ruling party in a high-powered gathering that looked more like a political homecoming than a routine defection.
Heavyweights of the APC were on ground to receive him, including former party national chairman and ex-Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, Yusuf Ata, and other influential party figures — a clear signal that the move had top-level backing.
Explaining his decision, Yusuf said returning to the APC would allow him to work more closely with the Federal Government, aligning Kano with President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as smoother governance and development.
The twist is especially juicy considering that Yusuf rode to power in 2023 on the platform of the NNPP, before quietly walking away from the party alongside several state and federal lawmakers.
