In the trending video, Omotola was asked about her identity, leaving her visibly frustrated. She requested the interviewer to repeat himself, and when the question was repeated, she walked out, telling him not to touch her.
Rita Dominic’s official statement, shared on Instagram, emphasized Omotola’s invaluable contribution to the industry. She described Omotola as a “valued member of the community,” a mentor who has spent decades paving the way for young creatives in Nigeria. The statement also apologized to Omotola for the discomfort caused by the interview and urged the media to respect event protocols and the privacy of guests.
The actress called for public understanding, stressing the importance of context before judging situations from short clips. Rita Dominic and the Miss Nigeria board made it clear that they “stand firmly” with Omotola, highlighting her iconic status and lasting impact on Nollywood.
This support comes after Omotola had previously stirred conversation by refusing to dance to promote her films, citing professionalism and the need to focus on quality work. She has also shared concerns over Nollywood’s structure compared to Hollywood, where she earns monthly residuals after four years, contrasting it with her 30 years in the Nigerian industry without residuals.
