65-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Supplying Drugs to Boko Haram in Borno

Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have arrested 65-year-old Hauwa Abdulazeez for allegedly supplying cannabis sativa to Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East.

The arrest was confirmed on Sunday by Lt-Col Sanni Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East. Abdulazeez was apprehended in Askira Uba Local Government Area, Borno State, following credible intelligence linking her to the supply of illicit drugs used by terrorist elements.

According to Lt-Col Uba, Abdulazeez is believed to be a key figure in the distribution network, supplying several communities including Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya. Investigations revealed she sourced the drugs from Sarti Baruwa in Taraba State and transported them along established routes to insurgents.

During the operation, 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms, were recovered. Abdulazeez is currently in military custody as investigations continue to identify and dismantle other members of the trafficking network.

Lt-Col Uba emphasized that intercepting such supply chains is crucial in disrupting terrorist operations, criminal activities, and instability in the North-East. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
