Naira Closes Week Stronger, Boosted by FX Reserves Surge to $46 Billion

The Naira ended the week on a positive note, appreciating slightly against the US Dollar at the official market on Friday, bolstered by a significant milestone in Nigeria’s external reserves.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed the Naira strengthened to ₦1,421.63 per dollar, up from ₦1,422.07 the previous day—a modest but welcome gain of ₦0.44.

This uptick coincided with the country’s foreign reserves climbing to **$46.01 billion** as of January 22, 2026, breaking the $46 billion mark from $45.95 billion just days earlier.

The week saw mixed performance for the Naira at the official window, recording three days of loss and two days of gain. However, in the parallel market, the currency held steady at around ₦1,490 per dollar throughout the week, according to BDC operators in Abuja.

The rising reserves and the week-ending appreciation offer a glimmer of stability and positive sentiment for the national currency amid ongoing economic efforts.
