7 Arraigned in Court for Allegedly BURNING Down Traditional Worshipper’s House in Kwara While She Was on Holiday

Seven suspects have faced a Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, charged with the alleged arson of a traditional worshipper’s home in a case that has sparked local tension.

The accused—identified as Alhaji Yekini Oloruntele, Alhaji Saliu Usman, Garba Amuda Yusuf, and others—pleaded not guilty to charges that they conspired to set fire to the bungalow belonging to Toyin Asabi Olorisa on January 1, 2026, while she was away on holiday.

The victim, through the state Ministry of Justice, dragged the suspects to court after police arrested them days following the incident. During proceedings, the prosecution detailed the charges, stating the accused “intentionally set fire” to her residence, an offense punishable under the state’s criminal code.

In a heated moment, the victim’s counsel requested the court remand the suspects. However, defense lawyers opposed the move. Ultimately, Justice Mahmud Gafar granted each suspect bail at ₦2.5 million with one surety, noting that the police had previously granted them bail.

The case has been adjourned to March 26, 2026, setting the stage for a closely watched trial.
