Manchester City Players Refund Fans After Shock Champions League Defeat in Norway

Manchester City have shown remarkable accountability and appreciation for their fans after a stunning 3-1 defeat to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League. The club has agreed to refund all 374 supporters who braved the Arctic conditions to watch the match in Bodø, Norway.

The result, described as one of the biggest upsets in recent UEFA Champions League history, left fans disappointed — but the players acted swiftly to acknowledge their loyalty. The squad collectively contributed £9,357 to reimburse supporters, covering the cost of the tickets, which were priced around £25 each.

Players Speak on Fans’ Sacrifice

Club captains Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland addressed the gesture, emphasizing the significance of the fans’ support:

“Our supporters mean everything to us. We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away, and we will never take it for granted. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodø is the least we can do.”

Despite the setback, Haaland did not hide his frustration after the match, describing the result as “embarrassing” and offering a blunt apology to supporters during a TNT Sports interview.

Fans Appreciate the Gesture

The club’s Official Supporters’ Club (OSC) praised the players’ actions, noting that there was little pressure from fans to receive compensation:

“City fans will travel to the ends of the earth to support our team, and last night was no different in the Arctic Circle,” said OSC representative Kevin Parker.

The move reinforces Manchester City’s commitment to fan loyalty and demonstrates a rare example of players taking responsibility after a major European upset.
