Erling Haaland Apologises After Manchester City’s Shock Champions League Defeat in Norway

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has publicly apologised to fans following the team’s stunning 3-1 loss to Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The match marked a challenging return to Norway for Haaland, who struggled to convert several clear chances as City failed to find rhythm throughout the game.

Bodø/Glimt Take Control Early

The Premier League champions were caught off guard in the first half as Bodø/Glimt raced into a 2-0 lead, with striker Kasper Høgh netting twice. City’s woes deepened after the break when Jens Petter Hauge added a third goal, sending the home crowd into celebration. Although Rayan Cherki pulled one back with a deflected strike, City could not mount a sustained comeback.

The defeat leaves Manchester City seventh in the group standings, putting their automatic qualification for the knockout stages at serious risk.

Haaland Takes Responsibility

After the match, Haaland admitted the team’s struggles and accepted personal accountability:

“I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility for not scoring the goals I should have. I’m sorry to everyone, every Man City supporter and every fan who came to the game today. In the end, it was embarrassing.”

Champions League Pressure Intensifies

City now face mounting pressure to recover as their next Champions League fixture is against Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium on January 28. The team will need a strong performance to secure a top-four spot and stay in contention for the knockout rounds.
