Nigerian businessman Olakunle Churchill has finally addressed the long-standing curiosity surrounding his relationship with former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo after he attended the elder statesman’s 89th birthday celebration.
The clarification came after Churchill shared clips from the event online, where fans noticed how close he appeared to the former leader. One curious follower even asked if the ex-president was actually his biological father.
Churchill Explains the Real Connection
Reacting to the comment, Olakunle Churchill explained that the relationship between them is built on mentorship and guidance, not blood.
According to him, a father figure is not always the man who gives birth to you but someone who plays a major role in shaping your life while growing up.

He revealed that through the influence and support of Olusegun Obasanjo, he was able to attend a military school in Abeokuta, where he spent a large part of his childhood developing discipline and strength.
Old Rumours Resurface
Churchill’s explanation comes years after controversy surrounded claims made during his messy split with Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh.
At the time, she alleged that Churchill’s late father worked as a gardener for Obasanjo, a statement that sparked heated debates online.

The businessman later pushed back against the narrative, insisting his father, Primate Gabriel Oladunni, was a respected religious figure known among prominent personalities.
Support From Royal Circles
Adding to the clarification, Olayinka Kiladejo, the Queen of Ondo Town, previously defended Churchill’s family background while speaking at a church event where he donated a missionary bus in honour of his late father.
She described his father as a well-respected religious leader, dismissing claims that he was merely a gardener.
Churchill’s Message
While addressing critics, Olakunle Churchill stressed that even if someone came from humble beginnings, it should never define their future.
For him, what matters most is the values, mentorship, and support that help shape a person’s journey to success.
The statement has once again stirred conversations online, with many debating the true story behind Churchill’s upbringing and his connection to the former Nigerian leader.
