Finance expert and social commentator GehGeh has set social media ablaze with a bold defence of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
In a viral video, GehGeh urged President Bola Tinubu to enact a law making it a crime to disrespect Fela, stating:
“President Tinubu should make it a law in Nigeria, anybody who talk down on Fela again should be jailed for life.”
Why GehGeh Feels Strongly
He argued that Fela’s legacy is inseparable from Afrobeat:
“Many people don’t understand the influence of Fela. Talking down on Fela means talking down on Afrobeat.”
He also highlighted that modern Nigerian artists, including Wizkid, owe their sound and international recognition to Fela’s pioneering work:
“If we remove Afrobeat from Wizkid, he doesn’t have any sound of his own.”
A Lighter, Controversial Moment
In a tongue-in-cheek remark, GehGeh joked:
“Can they make me President of Nigeria for one day, then you people will see law.”
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters applauding his defence of Fela, while critics call his suggestion extreme.
