Kwara Poly Rector Suspended After Student Protest Over NYSC Camp Use

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has ordered the immediate suspension of Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, following a student protest over the use of the school’s facilities as a temporary NYSC orientation camp.

The Governor directed that the most senior Deputy Rector take over the duties of the Rector while a three-person panel investigates the incident.

The investigation committee is led by State Attorney General Bar. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman and includes Commissioner for Environment Hon. Nafisat Buge and Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr. Mrs Mercy Olufunke Shittu.

The panel has two weeks to submit its report and is tasked to:

  1. Examine the remote and immediate causes of the student protest and its handling.
  2. Recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  3. Make suggestions for the growth and development of the institution.

Governor Abdulrazaq emphasized that the committee will engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough investigations.
