Nollywood legend Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has officially stepped behind the camera — and the premiere of her first directorial film, A Mother’s Love, left her beaming with gratitude.
A Star-Studded Premiere
On Sunday, March 1st, 2026, the Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi, Lagos, hosted the premiere of Omotola’s highly anticipated movie, marking her 30th year in the industry. The red carpet was alive with celebrities including Rita Dominic, Toke Makinwa, Nosa Rex, and even former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Taking to Instagram, Omotola credited God for the event’s success, writing:
“What a Night. GOD DID. Coming right back to express how I feel, but first, thank you all. A Mother’s Love is truly a gift everyone felt tonight. Showing in cinemas nationwide from March 6th, 2026 — get ready!”
Breaking the “Promotion Rules”
Omotola’s premiere comes amid ongoing debates in Nollywood about how actors should promote films. Previously, she made headlines for saying she wouldn’t dance to market her movies, calling it unprofessional. Colleague Kunle Afolayan also sparked discussions with comments about box office earnings versus personal gains.
Other industry stars, like Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, and Chinyere Wilfred, have weighed in, highlighting that artists should promote films in ways that work for them and not be constrained by jealousy or industry norms.

Reflecting on Nollywood vs. Hollywood
Last year, Omotola opened up about the challenges in Nollywood, noting the lack of residuals compared to her four years in Hollywood. She emphasized the need for better structures in Nigeria’s film industry — a vision clearly reflected in her meticulous approach to A Mother’s Love.
Omotola’s debut as a director marks a milestone not just for her career but also for Nollywood, inspiring upcoming filmmakers to dream big and honor their craft.
