It was an emotional and heartbreaking moment as gospel music icon Yinka Ayefele paid a condolence visit to the family of late singer Taiwo Adegbodu.
The respected Nigerian gospel artiste was seen weeping uncontrollably during his visit to the Adegbodu family house. In a video circulating online, Ayefele, seated in his wheelchair and surrounded by close associates, could not hide his grief as he mourned the loss of his colleague.
Reports revealed that Taiwo Adegbodu, who was one-half of the popular Adegbodu Twins, passed away in the middle of the night. The sudden news shocked many fans and members of the gospel music community.
Taking to social media, actor Muyiwa Ademola also paid tribute to the late singer. He described Taiwo as one of the greatest talents he had ever known and admitted that the news deeply weakened him.
A Growing List of Losses in Gospel Music
Taiwo’s passing adds to a series of painful losses within Nigeria’s gospel music industry.
Earlier this year, evangelist Bunmi Akinaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, reportedly passed away after battling illness.
The industry had also mourned the death of Aduke Gold, whose family later raised concerns involving the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, alleging delayed treatment contributed to her demise.
In 2024, the entertainment world was shaken by the death of media personality and singer Lara Odubo, whose passing followed a brief illness.
The same year also saw the loss of veteran Christian actor Moses Korede, popularly known as Baba Gbenro, leaving many believers and film lovers heartbroken.
Additionally, gospel singer Dare Melody endured personal tragedy after losing his wife, Adedoyin Odunuga.
A Community in Mourning
For Yinka Ayefele, the grief was visibly overwhelming. His emotional reaction reflected not just the loss of a colleague, but of a brother in faith and music.
