Drama unfolded at Bakky Plaza, Lekki, after a man was caught allegedly stealing electrical cables from a shop he quietly sneaked into while the owner was asleep.
According to eyewitness accounts, the shop owner was alone upstairs, resting, while his workers were downstairs setting up a new showroom within the plaza. In what turned out to be a costly mistake, the owner reportedly forgot to lock the shop door from inside—a routine safety step he usually observes.
While dozing off with his phone in hand, the suspect allegedly slipped into the shop unnoticed.
Trouble started when the owner suddenly woke up and spotted the strange man holding bundles of electrical cables inside his store. Sensing danger, the owner quickly blocked the exit and raised alarm, calling for help.
When questioned, the suspect initially claimed that workers from the new showroom had sent him to collect the cables. However, suspicion grew after it was discovered that he had removed his slippers outside, a move believed to help him sneak in silently.
Further interrogation reportedly exposed a deeper plot. The man allegedly had already stolen some cables earlier, hid them somewhere outside the shop, and returned to steal more before he was finally caught.
A video of the incident has since surfaced online, sparking mixed reactions as many Nigerians criticized rising theft in commercial areas, while others blamed poor security and negligence.
As of the time of reporting, it remains unclear if the suspect has been handed over to law enforcement.
