Papaya Ex Alleges Assault, Lagos Police Respond with Their Version

The Papaya Ex incident that has sparked debate across social media took a new turn as the Lagos State Police Command responded to her claims of assault.

Papaya Ex, a popular content creator and influencer, had claimed that she was attacked by police on Friday night while returning from a shoot. During a TikTok live session, she appeared with a bleeding face and alleged that officers hit her with a gun, assaulted her breast, and beat her driver. Although the live session did not capture the assault itself, her visible injuries, including a wound on her face, fueled public outrage.

The Lagos Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided the command’s version of events via social media. He explained that around 2 a.m., a night patrol stopped a car carrying three men and two women for a routine check. Papaya Ex allegedly refused to comply, claiming, “You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.”

According to Hundeyin, she then drove toward the station with her vehicle ahead of the patrol car and instructed her driver to speed off, prompting police to coordinate an interception further ahead — around the time her TikTok live session began.

He concluded his statement, saying, “@LagosPoliceNG will take it from here,” signaling that the command is investigating the matter.

The incident has divided public opinion, with some criticizing the influencer for defying the officers, while others continue to call for accountability regarding her reported injuries.
