Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor Victor Eriabie Dies at 63

The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Victor Eriabie, who died on the morning of February 17 at the age of 63.

News of his death spread quickly across the entertainment community, leaving colleagues and fans heartbroken. His body has since been moved from Lagos to his hometown, Aghalope, in Delta State. The family is expected to announce burial arrangements in the coming days.

Eriabie rose to prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s, earning recognition for his commanding presence on screen. He became widely known through the movie series Izozo, a powerful production that highlighted the issue of women trafficking and the struggles faced by victims. The series resonated strongly with audiences and helped cement his place in Nollywood.

A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Eriabie built a diverse career that extended beyond acting. He worked as a producer, television host, radio presenter, and playwright. He also served as the chief executive officer of a media company, contributing significantly to Nigeria’s media and entertainment landscape.

In more recent years, he appeared in films such as Love in a Pandemic and Unforgivable (2023), remaining active in the industry even as his on-screen appearances became less frequent.

Throughout his career, Eriabie was known for using storytelling to address pressing social issues, particularly those affecting women and young girls.

As of now, the cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed. Further information regarding his funeral is expected to be announced by his family soon.
