A Nigerian medical professional, Dr. Ayilola, has shared a personal story that has divided opinions online. In a post on X, he recounted ending a relationship with his former girlfriend due to her medical condition, only to discover years later that she went on to have three children.
Dr. Ayilola explained that his ex-partner was battling PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and a severe hormonal imbalance, which caused her menstrual cycle to occur only once a year and last just two days. Despite seeking medical advice, he knew that her chances of conceiving were extremely low.
“As a medical doctor, I understood that her chances of conceiving were extremely low, less than 5%,” he wrote. “I had to ask myself whether I was prepared for the emotional and mental strain of waiting and hoping if we eventually got married. I wasn’t ready.”
After a long discussion, he told her he could no longer continue the relationship. While the decision was difficult, both parties reached an understanding at the time.
Dr. Ayilola later discovered that his ex had defied the odds and had three children. He concluded, “Life truly has a way of surprising us.”
The post has sparked mixed reactions online. Some men praised him for making a tough decision based on realistic expectations, while others accused him of being insensitive for leaving someone due to a medical condition.
This story highlights the complex conversations surrounding relationships, fertility, and personal choices, reminding many that life can be unpredictable.
