BREAKING: Ex-Gov Nasir El-Rufai To Face Court Over NSA Phone Tapping Allegations

The Nigerian government is set to arraign former Kaduna State governor, , at the Federal High Court in Abuja over claims that he illegally intercepted phone communications of former National Security Adviser, .

Court filings dated February 16, 2026, reveal three counts against El-Rufai:

  1. Admitting on Arise TV that he and associates unlawfully intercepted NSA communications, violating Section 12(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024.
  2. Associating with individuals involved in the interception without reporting them, contrary to Section 27(b) of the same Act.
  3. Using technical systems to compromise national security, in breach of Section 131(2) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

The charges were filed by DSS legal team members: M.E. Ernest, O.M. Owan, U.M. Bulla, C.S. Eze, and E.G. Orubor.

The case is expected to be heard in the coming days, marking a high-profile legal showdown over allegations of cybercrime and threats to national security in Nigeria.
