Nigerian global sensation, Tems, has officially overtaken South African hitmaker Tyla to become the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify.
The “Love Me Jeje” crooner recently surged to 38.3 million monthly listeners, edging past Tyla’s 38.2 million — and fans are calling it a major milestone for Afrobeats and African women in music.
Industry watchers say Tems’ streaming leap is powered by a wave of fresh releases and heavyweight collaborations. Tracks like “What You Need” (Colour version), “Bounce Road Blues” alongside J. Cole and Future, plus her joint effort “Raindance” with Dave, have continued to fuel her global momentum.
And she’s not done yet.
Tems is now inching closer to breaking the all-time African monthly listener record — a 40 million benchmark previously set by Tyla. If the current streaming pace continues, that record may soon change hands again.
Beyond monthly listeners, Tems already holds another major crown: she remains the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, boasting an impressive 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
