Nollywood actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola is facing intense backlash after a controversial scene from one of her films resurfaced online — triggering outrage and heated debate across social media.
The viral clip features actor IK Ogbonna making offensive remarks about Yoruba women, joking about their hygiene in a way many viewers have described as disrespectful and damaging. The scene quickly drew criticism, with many accusing the production of promoting harmful stereotypes.
As reactions intensified, Bolaji Ogunmola stepped forward with a public apology, attempting to clarify her role in the situation.

According to her, the controversial lines were never part of the original script. She explained that IK Ogbonna improvised the statements during filming, and as a producer, she did not have immediate control to stop or alter the scene on set, as the director had the final creative authority.
However, her explanation did little to calm the storm.
Many critics questioned why the scene made it into the final cut of the film, arguing that proper oversight should have prevented such content from being released.
In a deeply emotional statement, Ogunmola admitted that the backlash has taken a serious toll on her. She revealed that she had received disturbing messages, including threats to her life and career, as well as attacks directed at her family.

She also clarified that the movie was filmed about three years ago and was intended as a lighthearted comedy highlighting misunderstandings between different tribes — ultimately promoting unity and love.
Reaffirming her identity, she stressed that she is proudly Yoruba and would never intentionally take part in content designed to insult her own people.
Taking full responsibility as the film’s producer, Ogunmola expressed regret for not handling the situation better and assured the public that she has learned from the experience.
The controversy has once again sparked conversations about accountability in Nollywood, creative control on set, and the fine line between comedy and cultural sensitivity.
While the apology may not have fully settled the outrage, it has opened the door to a broader discussion about respect, representation, and responsibility in the entertainment industry.
