Angry Protesters Storm Pretoria Court Demanding Justice for Slain Nigerian Driver

Tension ran high outside Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday as protesters demanded justice for , the 22-year-old Nigerian Bolt driver brutally murdered last Thursday.

Three suspects—Dikeledi Tears Phela, Gositsiane Machidi, and McClaren Mushwana—appeared in court facing murder and carjacking charges. The hearing has been adjourned to February 23, 2026, with the accused remaining in custody: the males at SAPS Pretoria North Police Station and Phela at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.

Outraged members of the Nigerian community, fellow e-hailing drivers, and residents gathered outside the court holding placards, demanding accountability and better protection for drivers, while standing in solidarity with Satlat’s grieving family.

Satlat was strangled by two passengers after picking them up, and his hijacked car and body were discovered later the same day in Atteridgeville. His tragic death has reignited urgent concerns over the safety of migrant workers and ride-hailing operators in South Africa.

The family is also struggling to raise funds for his repatriation to Nigeria, highlighting the deep emotional and financial toll of the tragedy.

This heartbreaking incident has united communities in South Africa and Nigeria, calling for swift justice and stricter measures to protect drivers from similar attacks.
