“It’s Not Wise to Play With Fire” — Oby Ezekwesili Blasts Senate Over Election Results Clause

Former Education Minister and activist Oby Ezekwesili has condemned the Nigerian Senate over a controversial clause on electoral result transmission, calling it “an insult on the collective intelligence of Nigerians.”

On her X account, Ezekwesili warned that the provision could be used to manipulate the 2027 elections, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio and colleagues of undermining the will of the people.

“In a functioning democracy, the elected can NEVER be greater than the collective will of those who elected them. Never,” she tweeted.
“It is not wise to play with fire. Transparency is always better.”

Her statements have ignited online debate about electoral integrity and public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.
