Frontline activist Aisha Yesufu has called on the Nigerian Senate to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio, criticizing lawmakers for failing to act decisively on the issue of real-time electronic transmission of election results.
Yesufu urged senators to stop portraying Akpabio as the sole problem and to cease “playing both the bad cop and good cop.” She reminded them of their constitutional powers to pass laws that ensure transparent elections.
On X, she wrote:
“Dear Senators, stop playing bad cop, good cop with us. None of you is blameless. You are either active or passive participants in disenfranchising the Nigerian people and subverting their power to choose who governs them. You all are supposed to be the voices of the people… You have the constitutional power and authority to ensure that real-time electronic transmission of election results is passed into law. You did it with the state of emergency in Rivers State. Stop telling us Akpabio is the problem! You all have the power to impeach Akpabio. DO IT.”
Her remarks sparked debates online about the Senate’s role in ensuring credible elections and holding leadership accountable.
