nigerian gospel musician Matthew Ogundele and three members of his crew have been found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State. The other victims were identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya (JoesTv).
According to reports, the artistes were invited to perform on the second day of a three-day birthday praise event organized by fellow gospel artist Olanireti Akinbola. The event lasted late into the night, prompting the group to spend the night at the studio due to the distance from their homes.
A police source revealed:
“The programme began on Monday. Matthew Ogundele and his crew performed on Tuesday and decided to sleep over in the studio. Their lifeless bodies were discovered the following morning.”
Social media reports and a Christian blog, Omojesu, noted that the victims passed away during the night. Images circulating online reportedly showed traces of blood around the noses, mouths, and ears of the victims, sparking concern and speculation about the cause of death.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the incident was reported by studio owner Akintayo Akinbola, husband of the celebrant, on Wednesday. He found the studio door locked from the inside and raised the alarm. Upon entry, the four bodies were discovered.
SP Adebisi stated that detectives documented the scene and found no visible signs of violence. The corpses were taken to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, for confirmation and later deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
This tragic incident has shocked the gospel community and prompted colleagues, friends, and fans to demand justice and clarity on what led to the untimely deaths of the artistes.
