Nollywood actress Biola Bayo has removed her interview with controversial actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka from Instagram and YouTube, following an intense wave of public backlash.
The interview saw Baba Ijesha defending himself against past rape allegations, insisting he is neither a pedophile nor a rapist. He also claimed to have been unfairly doubted by colleagues, including Iyabo Ojo, despite having cared for Princess’s children when they were younger.
Fans and social media users expressed outrage over both the interview and its platforming, criticizing the actor and Biola for giving him a public voice. Many condemned the decision to grant the interview in the first place. Comments ranged from strong disapproval to calls for accountability.
In response to the backlash, Biola Bayo swiftly removed the interview from her YouTube channel and hid it from her Instagram reels, signaling an attempt to contain the controversy.
This comes after Baba Ijesha’s release from prison on November 15, following over three years of custody related to sexual assault allegations. In 2022, he was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the rape of a 14-year-old girl, the daughter of comedienne Princess.
The incident underscores the sensitive nature of handling allegations of abuse in the public eye and the rapid influence of social media public opinion in shaping celebrity decisions.
