Nigeria’s political scene is already heating up as the Labour Party has officially set May 23, 2026 for its presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. The decision was confirmed after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, key timelines have been mapped out:
📌 Membership register submission to INEC – April 15, 2026
📌 Governorship & National Assembly primaries – May 15, 2026
📌 Presidential primaries – May 23, 2026
The NEC also approved ongoing party activities under the leadership of Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwochocha, including ward, local government, and state congresses scheduled for late March, as well as the national convention set for April 11.
With preparations already in motion, it’s clear the race for 2027 has quietly begun—and all eyes are now on who will emerge as the party’s flagbearer.
