Nigerian singer and songwriter Timaya has sparked controversy online after sharing his blunt opinion on marriage.
In a viral clip alongside fellow artist Paul Okoye, Timaya advised rapper Phyno against marrying Nigerian women, stating that the institution of marriage “no dey work” and suggesting that people focus on having children outside wedlock instead.
“Just born pikin, pikin dey grow. This marriage thing no dey work,” he said, leaving viewers divided over his candid take.

Timaya has also been making headlines over his relationship with American reality star Brooks Bailey. In late 2024, the pair were spotted holding hands while boarding a private jet, sparking widespread dating rumors. They later celebrated the New Year together, with Brooke expressing pride in Timaya for hosting his annual festival in Bayelsa. The couple also shared a traditional-themed photoshoot, blending Igbo and Bayelsa cultural attire styled by celebrity stylist Swanky Jerry.
Although breakup rumors circulated after Brooke unfollowed Timaya and deleted their photos on social media, the couple quickly shut them down by reposting a loved-up photo together, confirming their relationship is still intact.

In another candid revelation, Timaya explained why he avoids dating Nigerian women. While he doesn’t have an issue with them personally, he believes that the similar upbringing and foundation of many Nigerian women can make relationships toxic, comparing such dynamics to a “police and thief” scenario.
With his outspoken views on love and marriage, Timaya continues to ignite debates online, proving he’s unafraid to share controversial takes on relationships in the public eye. 💥🎤
