Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has finally spoken out following the death of his close friend, Denisi (Ego222), whose passing recently sparked emotional reactions online.
Reports earlier confirmed that Denisi, popularly known as Ego222 on Instagram, passed away, though the exact cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed. The sad news was first shared on social media by associate Joel Heugh Booysen, drawing sympathy from fans and friends.
Breaking his silence via Instagram Stories, Davido posted several throwback photos of himself with Denisi while expressing deep sadness over the loss. In a short but heartfelt message, the singer acknowledged the faith his late friend had in him.
“You loved and believed in me so much! I won’t let you down.”
Their bond appeared strong, as Denisi had publicly expressed pride in Davido in the past, with the singer responding warmly to his messages. Social media users also noticed that Davido, his wife Chioma Adeleke, and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest were among those following Denisi online.
The loss has once again reminded fans of previous tragedies around the singer’s circle, including the 2021 death of his close associate and aide Obama DMW, who reportedly died after experiencing breathing difficulties and was later buried in Lagos according to Islamic rites.
Davido had previously described Obama DMW as a brother and promised to support his son following the heartbreaking incident.
