“It’s a Vendetta!” – APC Faction, CSOs Besiege HQ, Beg NASS to Seize Rivers Assembly

The political inferno in Rivers State has reached Abuja’s doorstep. In a dramatic move, a coalition of APC stakeholders, civil society groups, and media professionals stormed the party’s national secretariat, issuing an explosive ultimatum.

Their demand? For the National Assembly to immediately invoke its constitutional powers and take over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The groups declared the state assembly has suffered a “total loss of credibility and legitimacy,” calling its ongoing impeachment drive against Governor Siminalayi Fubara a “reckless abuse of power” that threatens democracy itself.

The protest was charged with sharp accusations:

· “This is no longer oversight—it’s a vendetta to destabilise governance. Silence now is complicity!” declared Eze Chukwuemeka, spokesperson for the APC Leaders Forum.
· Comrade Blessing Ibama, a Civil Society Coordinator, asserted there is “no shred of evidence” of gross misconduct by Gov. Fubara, calling the allegations “pure political fiction.”

The protesters pointed fingers directly at the 27 lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. They accused this faction of being the crisis architects, alleging they were lavished with “humongous” constituency funds, luxury SUVs, and a year’s advance salary.”

With vows to sustain pressure, the coalition has thrown a constitutional gauntlet. They are not just protesting; they are demanding the Senate and House of Representatives dissolve the Rivers assembly and assume its role—a nuclear option in Nigeria’s political playbook.

The message from Abuja is clear: the battle for Rivers has escalated to a national emergency.
