Big Brother Naija Level Up winner, Ijeoma Josephine Otabor—popularly known as Phyna—has opened up about her difficult childhood and the struggles behind her name.
In a recent interview, Phyna revealed that her parents named her Blessing, a name she hated because she never felt blessed growing up.

She described a childhood where she constantly had to beg for love—from family, friends, and even in relationships.
“Growing up, I would always tell my aunts, even when they maltreated me, that they would watch me on TV and see me succeed,” she said.
Phyna also shared the meaning behind her Phoenix tattoo, explaining it symbolizes her resilience and ability to rise above life’s challenges. Despite the hardships, she always believed she would be famous and financially independent.
The reality star recently dropped her family surname, citing the absence of genuine family support and reflecting on a childhood she described as “crazy” and isolating.
Her candid revelations come amid ongoing family tensions, including her father’s past claims that she had abandoned him after winning the show. Phyna has repeatedly called out the media for sensationalizing her story.
