Nasiru Opens Up: Why I Avoided Interviews for a Year Amid Media Clickbait

Nigerian singer and skit maker Nasiru has revealed why he deliberately stayed away from interviews and podcasts for nearly a year, blaming misleading headlines and media clickbait culture.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nasiru expressed frustration over how some media platforms allegedly twist artists’ statements just to generate online traction.

“I stopped doing interviews and podcasts for a year because of clickbait. They twist your words just for traction without caring about the damage it causes,” he wrote.

The singer explained that a statement about Davido was taken out of context. “I said Davido isn’t my guy, he’s my boss, but the headline became ‘Davido isn’t my guy.’ I also said not everyone will like my music, not everyone likes music from Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, waking up to see ‘not everyone likes Wizkid’s music.’ Una go see me again,” Nasiru added.

He emphasized that these distortions misrepresent artists’ words and can mislead fans, which contributed to his decision to step back from interviews.

Nasiru’s experience underscores a growing concern among entertainers about sensationalized media reporting and its impact on reputations in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
