Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has sparked online chatter after playfully taking shots at colleagues who criticize dancing as a promotional tool for films.
The mother of two took to Instagram while promoting her upcoming movie Arinzo, which is set to premiere in cinemas this month. In a video, she danced energetically and captioned it: “Make I no dance to promote my movie nke.”
Her post comes amid a longstanding debate in Nollywood over whether actors should dance or use other gimmicks to market their films. Director Kunle Afolayan previously stated that he isn’t concerned about cinema earnings if he can’t generate a minimum revenue from the movies, and took a swipe at colleagues for relying on dances to promote films.

Other industry heavyweights, including Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, have also weighed in, expressing that dancing to promote movies is unprofessional, as they prefer letting the quality of their films speak for itself.
Responding to the debate, Iyabo Ojo dismissed the criticism, calling jealousy the “last class before becoming a witch,” and urged colleagues to allow others to succeed in their own way. She emphasized that 2026 is a year for action, not just talking.

Even veteran actress Chinyere Wilfred joined the conversation, sharing a video of herself dancing and telling critics not to dictate how others promote their work.
With her lively dance and bold stance, Iyabo Ojo is making it clear: if dancing helps promote her movie, she’s going to do it — and nobody should stop her. 💃🔥
