
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian MSc and PhD students the opportunity to study in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia.
The announcement was confirmed via X by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

The programme is designed to equip scholars with world-class training, access to research facilities, and the chance to develop expertise while building local capacity in Nigeria’s energy sector.
PhD and MSc Opportunities
PhD applicants to UK institutions will follow a split-site arrangement, conducting research between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and partner universities such as Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth.
MSc candidates must have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree and must have completed NYSC.
PhD candidates are required to submit a detailed research proposal.
The PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive, with applicants assessed based on academic performance, research proposals, professional memberships, and relevance to the oil and gas sector.
