Nigerian singer Rasheed Shanko is in deep mourning after the heartbreaking loss of his son, Atanda Jnr. Sharing the devastating news on Instagram, Shanko wrote:
“So sad, no parent prays to lose a child in their lifetime, but Alhamdulilahi Jamaldeen Emrys Atanda JNR, rest well, my champ. I will surely tell you all about it when I see you again. Omo Ola sun reeee ooo.”
The music community and fellow celebrities quickly flooded his comments with prayers and heartfelt messages. Stars including Gabriel Afolayan, Bisola Badmus, Small Doctor, and many others shared their condolences, offering words of comfort to Shanko and his family.
Tragically, this follows a series of similar heartbreaking events in Nollywood and entertainment circles over the past few years. Last year, veteran actress Peju and her husband lost their only child, Ayomikun. In 2024, actor Francis Duru and comedian Aphrican Ace also faced similar grief with the loss of their sons. Even skitmaker Olagunju Solomon Olamide lost his son on Father’s Day 2023, leaving fans devastated.
Shanko’s post is a raw reminder of the unimaginable pain parents endure in losing a child, and the outpouring of love online shows the support of friends, fans, and colleagues standing with him during this painful time.
This day will be remembered as a Black Friday for the singer, but the love and prayers surrounding him may bring some comfort in his grief.
